Furtei

The municipality of Furtei sits on the border between Marmilla, Trexenta and Campidano.

The presence of populations since the Nuraghic epoch is pointed to by the remains of many nuraghic settlements (as the ones in Cummossariu, Bangius, Sa Conca Manna, Monte Cresia, Noraxiais and Su Bruncu 'e su sensu), as well as the traces of ancient civilizations, which were uncovered in the localities of St. Salvatore and Su Bruncu 'e su testivigliu.

Along the streets of the historic centre, there appear some edifices of value, like St. Barbara’s parish church. Its interior holds an important Antioco Mainas’s oil painting on wood (sixteenth century) representing the Crucifixion and a sixteenth century Dormitio Virginis dowered with brocade garments, sandals and silver crown. St. Narcissus Church in Romanesque style stands in the high part of the village, whereas the country one of St. Blaise is in the countryside where there stood Nuraxi village. Furtei holds the small churches of St. Mary of the Nativity, St. Sebastian, Sacred Family, too.

During the third week of August, the village celebrates St. Blaise’s Festival, characterized by the “Torrada de Su Santu” very felt and attended procession, that reaches the village by cutting across the country church countryside.

In the week by the 8th to the 15th of September, there is the Virgin Mary’s celebration.

St. Narcissus is feasted the last Sunday of October: celebrations are typified by the peculiarity of religious rites, wholly given in ancient Sardinian “campidanese” language (“s'arrosarieddu cantau”), by tasting of hot chestnuts and new wine and by the designation of the “Prioressa” (female Prior) of the people, with her young assistants, Is Priorisseddas.
