The territory of Marmilla is involved in the production of many “typical products”; this definition has a transversal value meaning, indicating:

  • PDOs and PGIs  product;
  • DOC, DOCG, IGT wines;
  • traditional agricultural and food products;

PDOs and PGIs products

Controlled designation of origin and geographical indications are assigned to agricultural and food products which, for their qualitative peculiarity, are tightly tied to their places of production, where they have their historic and cultural roots. In Marmilla it is possible to produce the following PDOs and PGIs products:

  • Agnello di Sardegna (Lamb of Sardinia) PGI
  • Fiore Sardo (Sardinian Flower) PDO
  • Pecorino Sardo (Sardinian hard cheese made from ewe's milk) PDO
  • Olio extravergine di oliva (extra-virgin olive oil) PDO – Sardinia
  • Carciofo Spinoso di Sardegna (thorny artichoke of Sardinia) PDO within the limits of the following municipalities territories: Furtei, Pauli Arbarei, Segariu, Villamar, Mogoro
  • Zafferano di Sardegna (Saffron of Sardinia) PDO within the limits of the following municipalities territories: Turri, Villanovafranca

DOC wines that can be produced in the LAG area territory:

  • Cannonau di Sardegna
  • Girò di Cagliari
  • Monica di Sardegna
  • Moscato di Sardegna (Muscat wine of Sardinia)

IGT wines that can be produced in the LAG area territory:

  • Isola dei Nuraghi (Island of Nuraghs)
  • Marmilla
  • Tharros 

Traditional products

The expression “traditional products” includes agricultural and food products whose processing, preservation and seasoning methods are well-established in the course of the time, homogeneous within the involved territory, according to traditional rules, for at least twenty-five years of time. 

Soft drinks, distillates and liquors

  • Acquavite - filu‘e ferru - file e ferru (Brandy)
  • Liquore di cardo selvatico - likori de gureu (liquor of wild thistle)
  • Mirto di Sardegna tradizionale (traditional myrtle liqueur of Sardinia)
  • Sapa di fico d'india - saba de figu morisca (sapa of prickly pear)
