The small village of Masullas is situated within Mount Arci’s Regional Park, in the shelter of a hill, which shelters it from the frequent north-west wind. Nearby the village, there are the marly arenaceous pits, whereby the local houses (typified by rustic stone walls) building material is extracted.

Masullas history is very ancient, as prenuraghic monuments, its territory is dotted with, prove. There are many nuraghic ruins, such as Su Pàra, Mustazzori, Onigu, Bissanticcu, and Corongiu Arrubiu.

Masullas territory is included in Sardinia Geo-mining, Historic and Environmental Park, which was declared to be the first Geo-mining Park in the world and inserted the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. “Conca Cannas” area is very important: there are big fields of perlite and obsidian, the Sardinian black gold. In the surrounding country there were found outcrops of precious stone, such as cornelians, amethysts, quartzes and agates.             The singular block of stone called “Perda Sperrada”, which was found along the SS (A-road) number 442, is probably a lava outcrop of underwater origin. Its name derives by the precise splitting of its surface, generated by natural causes. Legend has it that this curious block at the beginning was a pig, then turned into stone and broken with a kick by Luxia Arrabiosa, Mount Arci’s legendary personage.

Masullas dedicated to its natural riches Mount Arci’s Geo-museum, set up in the fifteenth century Capuchin monastery: the exposed collection embraces about 1800 specimens of animal fossils, largely from Sardinia, as well as some varieties of vegetable fossils.

Among Masullas traditional events, there are the celebrations of the 19th of January, when bonfires are made in honour of St Sebastian; the feast of the patron Saint, “Sa Gloriosa”, is the 2nd of July, with a procession and parade of traditional costumes, horsemen and “traccas” (decked oxen carts); St. Francis is celebrated the 4th of October; St. Lucy’s festival takes place by the 12th to the 13th of December.

At the beginning of November, finally, there is the pomegranate Festival, with sweets and spirits made with its palatable fruit.
