Setzu is a small hamlet situated along the scope of the Giara of Gesturi. It is typified by the splendid landscapes painted by the Mediterranean scrub.
The territory is rich in archaeological evidence, which document the presence of man since pre-nuraghic period. The Domus de Janas of “Grutta Sa Pedra” and “Sa Domu ‘e S’Orcu” go back to this phase. The second one is derived by a sole roundish block of calcareous marly stone. Both of them are excavated in limestone and characterized by the entrance similar to a furnace door (“a bocca di forno”) . There are also numerous nuraghs, such as the ones of Furconi Pardu, Maghia Sattania, Narazzaxiu, Pau, Setzu and Suraxiu.
The most interesting complex from an archaeological point of view is the Corte Murus nuragh, on the southern brow of the Giara.
In 1996 a Roman tomb, with a quantity of funerary goods, was found in Setzu historical centre.
The most important building of the village is the parish church of St. Leonard Confessor. It was built in the thirteenth century in Romanesque form, but went to rack and ruin in the following centuries. In the seventeenth century it was reconstructed according to baroque form, preserving only the original steeple of the first construction.
